FAQ
FREQUENT CLIENT QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q: What exactly are eyelash extensions?
A: Lash extensions are a way to extend the length and thickness of natural eyelashes. You can also think of them as a practical, convenient alternative to the daily use of mascara. Lash extensions are the first technique in lash lengthening that can be worn daily, without nightly removal. Each synthetic lash is bonded to a single natural lash. The final result is effortless, natural beauty and hard to detect even up close!
Q: How long does the process take?
A: A full set takes about 1 1/2-2 hours to apply and fill ins are about an hour to an hour and a half depending on how much natural lash/lash extension "fallout" you may have.
Q: On average, how long should extensions "last" without needing to come back to get them "touched up"?
A: Fill ins are suggested every 2-4. This depends on how your natural lashes shed, how you take care of them, and really your preference on how full you want to keep your set. Some clients come every two weeks to keep their set looking as full as possible. Some clients go the full 3-4 weeks because their lashes shed slower/they don't mind not having 100% lash coverage.
Q: Can I apply mascara and use eye makeup remover to gently remove eye makeup?
A: Mascara is typically not needed with lash extensions. The bond adhesive dries a glossy black giving the appearance of smooth, clump free mascara on every individual lash. I personally don't recommend the use of mascara on the extensions for a few reasons. It can shorten the longevity of your lashes, can be difficult to remove putting unneeded stress on the extension and natural lash, lastly, it clumps extensions together giving the appearance of less lashes. If it's the week before your fill in and you're feeling a little bit naked you can use a bit of whatever brand is easiest for you to remove. It can NEVER be waterproof! This puts too much stress on the lashes to remove.
Q: What is the removal process if I decide I no longer want extensions?
A: Removal is an easy and pain-free process. However, I do not suggest doing it yourself. It takes about 30 minutes depending on how many lashes are still bonded. You would be sitting up for this appointment but still have your lower lashes secured with a gel pad like your normal lash appointment. I will saturate the remaining lashes with a removal solution and let that sit and break down the adhesive. After a few minutes, I then go one by one and slide the extensions off of the natural lash using a microbrush. You will not lose natural lashes during this process.
Q: Can lash extensions harm my natural lashes?
A: When applied properly, lash extensions will not harm natural lashes. My application technique allows natural lashes to grow and thrive with extensions. This technique requires several different “separation” steps during the application process so each extension is adhered to a single natural lash in order to prevent interruption of the lash growth cycle.
Q: What's the best way to take care of my lashes?
A: Morning/nightly cleansing is necessary to maximize the longevity of the extensions. Oil free, antibacterial foam facial washes are perfect for cleaning the lashes free of any makeup, oil or debris. Using a lash wand to comb the lashes free of tangles, just make sure they are dry before doing so. As far as the first 24-48 hours of a full set (12-24 hours for a fill in), it is crucial to have your lashes stay away from moisture (showers, saunas, hot tubs, excessive exercise, spray tans, etc.), avoid touching them, as well as wearing eye makeup. I will send each client home with after care instructions explaining further in depth!
